Happy Saturday, friends! If you’re anything like me, and I know I am, this season is always packed with celebrations and good food and time with loved ones. No doubt you or your congregation are preparing for one or more special worship services. Not to mention, there’s all kinds of shopping and gifting and giving to do. In this season of hustle and bustle, it’s easy to get wrapped up in ribbons and bows and busyness and forget WHAT and WHY and WHO we’re anticipating. So, I encourage you to take a moment today and to welcome the stillness of God into your heart. As we move from a week of hopeful anticipation to a week of peaceful anticipation, consider what it means to wait. We live in a world where so many of our desires can be fulfilled almost instantly. We have same day delivery, 30-minutes or less guarantees, and instant options for everything from coffee to financial transactions. So the idea of waiting to is somewhat foreign to many of us. This week, I’m thinking about two lay folks from our own FLUMC family who’ve been waiting. For decades, Alice Williams and Debby Zutter have served the Florida Conference and beyond. With the 2024 General Conference changes to the Book of Discipline, their 40-plus year wait came to an end and they were finally wed and celebrated in the church they serve. Please join me in wishing Alice and Debby the very best and many, many happy years in of love! Finally, earlier this week, Bishop Berlin announced the assignment and appointment of our own Molly McEntire as the new Director of Connectional and Mission Ministries for The Florida Conference. In her new role, Molly will guide and focus the mission efforts and connectional ministries of the conference. She will also maintain generative relationships between the conference and the general boards and agencies of The United Methodist Church. Please join me in congratulating Molly on her promotion!
