Can you believe it? The wait is almost over! As we round the corner of Advent and head toward Christmas Day, I am feeling a bit tired. I suspect you may be, too. 

As leaders in the Church and community, this time of year can be incredibly busy and schedules completely full. 

While the season is a time for hope, joy, love, and peace, it can be a time of grief for many. For some, the anticipation of Christ’s birth can be bittersweet they I struggle with infertility.  For others, this season reminds us of those we’ve lost, whether through death or estrangement. 

It’s a complicated season.

However, just like Advent is both long and fast, the kindom of God is present and future. We can live into it through our anticipation and service. As we hope for the one who “prepares a great feast for the ones who are hungry, but sends the fat ones home with empty bellies,” (Like 1:53), we are encouraged by the Christ who is merciful and loves as the rule and not the exception. 

We live into the joy of Mary, even when we are weary. We live into the peace of the (very unlikely silent) night. Most of all, we live into the call of Christ on our lives: to bring the kin-dom ahead of the kingdom. 

Wishing you a peaceful, joyous, hopeful season of love.
